Southern California has a wide selection of amazing beaches to choose from when traveling (just take a look at what Laguna Beach has to offer). But when looking for a luxury resort that is on or near the beach, the options are surprisingly limited. We did the research and below are the best beach resorts in Southern California.

Terranea Resort, Palos Verdes

Situated on a peninsula, Terranea Resort is almost completely surrounded by ocean. Trails and scenic overlooks abound on the resort grounds. Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego

Rich in history and mystery (there’s even rumored to be a resident ghost), this beachfront resort was once the largest in the world. It’s gone through several major upgrades and retrofits since being built in 1888, but much of its old charm is still there. Loews Coronado Bay Resort, San Diego

Situated almost as far south as one can go in California, this resort is an ideal spot to escape the busy city while enjoying beautiful beachside views. There are three heated pools, a spa, a tennis court and a fitness center that offers classes like yoga and kick-boxing. Guests can also just relax on the beach which is only steps from the hotel. The Lodge at Torrey Pines, San Diego

Fireplaces and rustic touches fill this Craftsman style resort. Next door is Torrey Pines State Reserve with beautiful trails along the coast. An 18-hole golf course is also adjacent to the resort. Montage, Laguna Beach
